About me

I’m Dr. Margaret Crane, a licensed child psychologist and an Assistant Professor in Implementation Science at Brown University. I offer therapy, clinical consultation, and implementation consultation.

I chose the name Beacon Consultation due to my love of sailing. Like a beacon, I aim to give my clients hope and guide them to solutions that work for them.

  • I use strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy to help people thrive. I believe each client is the expert on themselves, and I collaborate with families to tailor evidence-based strategies to each client. I specialize in helping families of children with anxiety, behavioral, attention, and sleep difficulties. I have advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention, parent management training (the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program), parent coaching for children with anxiety and OCD (SPACE), and sleep training for children under age 5.

  • I provide trainings and consultation on applying implementation science methods to research and implementation practice. I have a particular interest in helping startups, including digital health companies, use implementation science in their work.

My implementation research examines methods to increase access to effective treatments for mental health. I approach this by considering how to increase the supply and demand of effective treatments. I research business models, financing strategies, and policies to fund mental health treatments. My research also uses direct-to-consumer marketing and dissemination strategies to help patients access treatment. I use mixed (qualitative and quantitive) methods in my work. My research has been funded by the NIMH, and I have published over 30 peer reviewed journal articles

Education/Training

I received my bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Temple University. I received predoctoral clinical training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I completed a predoctoral internship at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine, and my postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University.
